'white christmas' +
'jump steady blues'
here's a modern 78 of boogie woogie piano recordings for the holidays:
side A 'white christmas' as I imagine
Albert Ammons would have played it.
side B 'jump steady blues' a studio
recording of the 1928 Pinetop Smith boogie woogie classic.

'jump steady blues (live video)'
for a few weeks in early 2013 there was a grand piano on the bluffs overlooking the ocean in Half Moon Bay.
it was an art installation by Mauro Ffortissimo, involving nightly concerts, and ultimately ended with the
piano being set on fire (not to worry, it was in pretty bad shape even before being placed on the bluffs).
during the day, it was open to anyone who wanted to play it. so i played the classic 1928 Pinetop Smith
boogie woogie 'Jump Steady Blues'.
interesting trivia (if you're me): most boogie woogie that followed this in the 30s and 40s is in C.
'Jump Steady Blues' is in E-flat. curiously E-flat actually makes the walking bass figure a lot easier to
play than in C, due to the topology of the keyboard. and also for that same reason many of the riffs
really only work when played in E-flat.

'a christmas carol'
a year ago Michael La Guardia and i produced the soundtrack for Coastal Repertory Theatre's production of A Christmas Carol.
all the tracks are classic Christmas carols with arrangements ranging from fairly traditional to really odd. Case in point:
'Hell' is an arrangement of
'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' for cello, piano, and steam locomotive.

the entire soundtrack.

new music posted
first
there is a new category of piano solos containing two
performances of just me and a piano keyboard (no sequencing software,
effects, and such). these are non-traditional arrangements of some
chrismas classics i did for Pacific Spindrift Players production of It's a Wonderful Life
(running for the next 3 weekends). thanks to this show i finally have
an excuse to play Albert Ammons style boogie woogie for an audience.
note: they are very short, due to how the fit into the show.
additionally there is my entry to the cw/imeem 90210 theme cover contest. fun little
diversion between shows.
